SOMES FOLKS' "REAL"FLAG DAY

Today is official “Flag Day,” and I’m a flag waver. For a lot of us veterans, the “real” Flag Day is the day we saw our American flag flying in our homeland when we got off the boat or airplane (“Freedom Bird”) from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and anyplace else the bad guys were shooting at us.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE STATISTICS

763 bills were introduced between the House and Senate of the 26th Alaska State Legislature, during the 2009 - 2010 sessions. Only 180 bills passed (about 25%). 89 resolutions were introduced, and 58 passed (about 65%). Resolutions - if they aren't too wild - are typically easier to pass thyan bills. That's because they aren't laws, just official opinions.

Some bills and resolutions that didn't pass were "companion bills" to the same bill in the other legislative chamber - so that if one passed the other didn't. Some bills that did pass were "housekeeping" bills that merely updated language, etc.
