ONE CAN ONLY SPECULATE
What is it that causes the media to zero in on this one particular tragic disappearance? One can only speculate.
A quick Internet search to the Alaska State Troopers showed 47 missing persons. - check out http://www.dps.state.ak.us/ast/cib/Bulletins.htm A Missing Persons Clearinghouse, guided by Alaska statue, became operational in 1988 and, in calendar year 2001, received 4,241 notifications of missing juveniles and adults missing from Alaska. On the radio today I heard there are some 140,000 missing persons in the United States.
The life and safety of every human being has value, whether it's Aruba or Alaska.

Who knows why the media picks one story over another. I think it is our responsibility to stay informed the best we can, and not rely exclusively on the media.
Alaska Amber Alert is a great idea that isn't being utilized as much as it should be. It is a relatively minor addition to add an RSS feed that people could get updates in their email or others could post on their sites automatically. I've suggested this, for not only the Amber Alert program but also the Cyber Security Alert Level and Alaska's Office of Homeland Security.
The Internet is a great way to get the most information out to the most people in the least amount of time and effort. There isn't any reason why the state couldn't make these simple additions. You can see how I have implemented some Alerts on my web site at YourAnchorageRadio.Com
Also, I want to congratulate you on creating this blog. It's definitely a step in the right direction. I look forward to seeing you on the road. I'll stop to say hello.
